Publishing random blog posts rarely moves rankings. Publishing connected posts around one subject does. That structure is called a topic cluster, and it is one of the most reliable ways to build authority for a service or product area.
What is a topic cluster?
A cluster has one hub page and several supporting pages. The hub covers a broad subject completely, such as local SEO. Each supporting page goes deep on one related question, such as how to set up a Google Business Profile or how to earn reviews. All pages link to each other.
Why clusters work
- They show Google that you cover a subject in depth, not just one keyword.
- Internal links pass authority from strong pages to the pages that earn revenue.
- Readers move naturally from one useful answer to the next, which keeps them on your site.
How to build one
Choose the hub topic
Pick a subject tied to something you sell. If a topic will never lead to an enquiry, it is a poor hub no matter how much traffic it has.
List the supporting questions
Use keyword research, Search Console, and sales conversations to list every question customers ask about the topic. Group similar questions so each page targets one clear intent. Our keyword research guide walks through this step.
Write the hub page
Give the hub a clear overview, short answers to the main questions, and links to every supporting page. It should be the best single page on the web for the broad topic.
Write the supporting pages
Answer the question in the first few lines, then add detail, examples, and next steps. Link back to the hub and to two or three sibling pages using natural anchor text.
Link to your service page
Every cluster should end at a page that can turn readers into customers. A cluster about audits should link to your SEO audit page.
Keep clusters healthy
Review each cluster every few months. Update outdated facts, merge thin pages, and add new questions that appear in Search Console. Refreshing a page that already ranks often beats writing a new one.
